Sports Minister Kofi Adams announces major upgrade for Ho Sports Stadium | Discuss Ghana

The Volta Region’s sporting landscape is on the verge of a major structural overhaul. The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has officially announced comprehensive government plans to modernize the Ho Sports Stadium, aiming to elevate the facility to Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards capable of hosting certified international competitions. The ambitious project forms part of a larger national infrastructure strategy rolled out by the Sports Ministry to build and fully upgrade eight major stadia across the country, ensuring that international football fixtures are no longer confined strictly to Kumasi and Accra.

Upgrading to CAF Standards

To transition the Ho Sports Stadium from a regional sports arena into a world-class, certified match venue, the Ministry’s blueprint addresses several critical infrastructural gaps that currently limit its capacity:

Playing Surface & Drainage: The project will install a premium, FIFA-standard pitch integrated with an advanced underground drainage network to completely prevent waterlogging during rainy seasons.

Modern Seating & Hospitality: Plans include expanding the spectator stands, adding modern seating buckets, and constructing dedicated VIP boxes, press galleries, and media centers equipped with high-speed digital connectivity.

Pro-Level Dressing Rooms: The stadium will be retrofitted with state-of-the-art player dressing rooms, referee lounges, anti-doping testing facilities, and localized medical units that align with strict international football protocols.
