Work resumes on UHAS’s massive 5,300m² Laboratory Complex | Discuss Ghana

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) is officially back on track to claim its crown as a premier medical research hub in West Africa. Following years of structural delays, work has officially and aggressively resumed on the massive 5,300-square-metre Multi-Purpose Laboratory Complex at the UHAS Sokode Campus. Inspected directly by President John Dramani Mahama during day one of his "#ResettingGhana" working tour in the Volta Region, the completion of this landmark five-block facility is being championed as a cornerstone of the administration’s Reset Agenda—aimed at decentralizing high-tier health education and regional growth.

Inside the UHAS Mega-Lab Blueprint

The revival of the complex, which originally broke ground under the GETFund in 2014 before stalling, is designed to shift medical education in Ghana from theory to world-class, hands-on application:

The Scale of Training: The state-of-the-art facility is built to accommodate over 1,200+ students and staff simultaneously, radically expanding the university's intake capacity for vital healthcare programs.

Specialized High-Tech Units: The five-block complex will feature highly specialized modern learning centers, including a Radiology Simulation Centre, a Physiotherapy Lab, an Anatomy Lab, a Dental Simulation Lab, and a specialized Small Animal Lab.

Financial Self-Sustainability: In a bid to build robust institutional independence, the lab is structured to generate its own Internally Generated Funds (IGF). By offering top-tier diagnostics, toxicology screenings, and commercial research services to private enterprises and hospitals nationwide, UHAS will secure the steady income needed to maintain and replace its own high-end equipment.
