Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and Chairman of the NPP's Finance and Economy Policy Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has alleged that the government quietly introduced a new tax during the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.
Speaking to journalists following Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson's presentation to Parliament, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah cautioned the public to look past the government's rhetoric regarding unchanged fiscal targets. He argued that despite claiming no supplementary estimates were required, the Finance Ministry slipped in additional tax obligations that will further burden businesses and consumers. The former Information Minister urged Ghanaians and economic analysts to closely examine the budget fine print to identify hidden revenue measures.
Maintaining vigilance and transparency over public finance disclosures remains critical for protecting citizens from unexpected tax burdens.
