High Court Dismisses Suit Against NDC Rule Requiring Political Appointees to Resign Before Internal Elections | Discuss Ghana

The Accra High Court (General Jurisdiction 8) has dismissed a legal challenge aimed at stopping the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from enforcing a rule that requires government appointees to step down before contesting party executive elections.

Presided over by Justice Sedina Agbamava, the court threw out the suit, affirming the NDC's right to implement its internal election regulations. The decision fully upholds the party's 2026 guidelines approved by its National Executive Committee (NEC), which mandate that Ministers, MMDCEs, CEOs, MDs, and other key appointees resign from their public positions at least six months prior to filing nominations for regional and national executive roles.

Strengthening internal party discipline and preventing the potential misuse of state resources during intra-party contests remain fundamental to promoting administrative equity within Ghana’s democratic institutions.
