Deputy Finance Minister Affirms Strong Leadership and Fiscal Discipline Behind Economic Reforms | Discuss Ghana

Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Nyarko Ampem has lauded the leadership of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, emphasizing that the administration’s economic strategy is driven by unyielding fiscal discipline and strong executive backing from President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking during parliamentary debates on the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review, Mr. Ampem Nyarko dismissed opposition criticisms regarding government spending controls and economic management, describing Dr. Ato Forson as a resolute minister who cannot be pushed into fiscal compromise. He highlighted that the Ministry of Finance's structural reforms—such as mandatory commitment authorisations and strict procurement limits—have successfully halted unfunded contract awards, curtailed public overspending, and sustained single-digit inflation. Ampem Nyarko assured lawmakers and the public that with President Mahama’s deep economic understanding and commitment to lasting policy legacies, the government remains firmly on track to protect macroeconomic stability, rebuild reserves, and generate long-term growth.

Maintaining fiscal discipline and institutional alignment between executive leadership and financial policy remains crucial to sustaining Ghana's ongoing economic recovery.
