President Mahama Arrives in Belarus to Target Agricultural Revolution | Discuss Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has officially arrived in Minsk to begin a high-stakes state visit to the Republic of Belarus.

Upon landing, the President was received at the airport by Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich alongside a delegation of senior government officials. Moving swiftly to observe state protocol, President Mahama visited the iconic Victory Monument to lay a wreath in honor of the Belarusian and Soviet Army soldiers who lost their lives liberating the country during World War II.

The Diplomatic and Agricultural Itinerary

The solemn wreath-laying ceremony was witnessed by the Governor of Minsk, Vladimir Kukharev, officials from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Russia, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah.

Following the memorial service, President Mahama immediately pivoted to his administration's economic and food security agenda by touring the Belagro 2026 international agricultural exhibition alongside Deputy Prime Minister Karankevich. The exhibition features the latest breakthroughs in heavy machinery, farming infrastructure, and mining technology. The President closely inspected several world-class industrial product lineups, including:

Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) advanced product lineup.

Minskyekspo ZAO specialized technical displays.

Bobruiskagromash high-yield fertilizer machinery.

BelAZ-75710, a massive, world-record-holding haul truck.

Setting Strict Conditions for Machinery Trade

In brief remarks delivered at the exhibition grounds, President Mahama emphasized that his visit—undertaken at the formal invitation of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko—is perfectly timed to feed into his administration's active vision to revolutionize Ghana's agricultural sector by tapping into Belarus's vast manufacturing experience.

While highly praising the exceptional engineering quality of the equipment on display, the Ghanaian leader explicitly established that procurement agreements will hinge on strict maintenance guarantees:

"This visit is incredibly timely because it aligns perfectly with our vision to completely revolutionize Ghana's agricultural sector. Belarus has built a global reputation for heavy equipment engineering, and we are here to tap into that valuable experience. However, while we highly admire the build quality and capacity of these tractors and industrial haulers, I must emphasize that flawless technical support, a steady local supply of spare parts, and reliable after-sales service warehouses are non-negotiable prerequisites before Ghana finalizes any transaction."
