On the second day of his state visit to Belarus, President John Dramani Mahama visited the industrial city of Brest to explore opportunities for transforming Ghana’s agricultural sector.
The President was received by the Governor of Brest, Piotr Alexsandrovich Parkhomchik, alongside senior officials from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry. The central focus of the trip was a guided tour of one of the country's largest agro-processing facilities, where President Mahama inspected advanced technologies used in the mass production of milk, cheese, milk powder, and specialized baby food destined for global markets.
Inspecting High-Tech Production Lines
Accompanied by his Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Moscow, Dr. Koma Steem Jehu-Appiah, President Mahama observed the various stages of the plant's high-tech production line.
In remarks delivered after the tour, the President highlighted Ghana’s commitment to adopting modern processing techniques to transition the nation from smallholder farming into large-scale commercial agriculture. Belarus currently stands as a top global leader in the export of premium dairy products, including milk powder, butter, and cheese, presenting a proven template for Ghana's industrial goals.

Securing Investments and Tackling Post-Harvest Losses
During the tour, the Managing Director of the company, Aleksandr Savchits, revealed that the facility recorded over $1.4 billion in profit last year. He noted that the company recently began exporting dairy products to Ghana and is looking forward to expanding its export volumes as bilateral trade ties strengthen.
President Mahama utilized the opportunity to invite Belarusian investors to establish direct partnerships with Ghanaian business associations, targeting technical solutions to solve local agricultural challenges:
"We are here to tap into Belarus' vast experience as we work to make Ghana self-dependent in food production. A primary goal of this visit is to identify technical solutions to reduce post-harvest losses, which remains a major challenge for Ghanaian farmers. We are inviting Belarusian investors to partner with our local business associations, creating a mutual benefit that drives industrial growth for both nations."
