Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu Announces Plan to Build and Upgrade 10 Model Category A Schools | Discuss Ghana

Minister for Education Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has revealed that the government is undertaking a comprehensive infrastructure plan that includes constructing new model secondary institutions and upgrading selected Category B institutions into 10 fully equipped Category A schools.

The initiative aims to address the structural mismatch in the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), where over 390,000 candidates compete annually for limited Category A vacancies.

Key Highlights of the Expansion Plan

Funding & Execution Strategy:

GETFund Allocation: A minimum allocation of GH¢250 million from the GETFund formula has been directed toward physical infrastructure in top-tier schools (dormitories, modern laboratories, and classroom blocks).



$300 Million World Bank Facility: Complemented by a $300 million secondary education improvement facility to fund new construction and re-tool existing high schools across the country.

Upgrading Ladder: In addition to establishing 10 Category A model schools, 20 Category C institutions are being elevated to Category B status.
