President Mahama to Report South Africa to AU Over Xenophobic Attacks Against Ghanaians | Discuss Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa sent an official envoy to Ghana to discuss the recent wave of xenophobic violence targeting Ghanaian citizens in South Africa.

Speaking on the diplomatic developments, President Mahama stated that while Ghana holds no ill will toward South Africa, the government will not overlook the safety and dignity of its nationals. He revealed that Ghana, supported by ECOWAS partners, will formally place the issue on the agenda of the next African Union (AU) Summit to demand accountability and continental action against anti-immigrant violence. The move follows Ghana's evacuation of over 1,000 affected citizens from South Africa and the postponement of a planned presidential state visit amid rising tensions.

Holding member states accountable at the continental level is vital to safeguarding Pan-African unity and enforcing regional protection for migrant workers.
