Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the government has deposited $1.7 billion into a dedicated, ring-fenced account at the Bank of Ghana to finance the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme.
Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review in Parliament, Dr. Forson confirmed that the funds were secured and deposited as of July 22, 2026, ensuring that capital is available ahead of the main contract award.
Ring-fencing project capital and securing early procurement milestones remain vital strategies for accelerating major transport infrastructure initiatives across the country.
