Ghana and Nigeria have reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening cross-border economic integration and strengthening trade ties under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), resolving to systematically remove non-tariff trade barriers to boost intra-regional commercial volumes beyond 20 percent.
The bilateral resolution was highlighted by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, while receiving the letters of credence from Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate to Ghana, Shehu Ilu Barde. Ablakwa emphasized that establishing seamless trade corridors, harmonizing customs protocols, and safeguarding the free movement of goods and services between West Africa’s two largest economies remain vital to delivering on AfCFTA’s overarching vision. He further urged member states across the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to bolster institutional confidence and demonstrate political leadership in resolving regional trade friction.
Deepening diplomatic alignment and economic cooperation between regional powerhouses continues to play a central role in driving West African trade integration and economic resilience.
