Following through on a major commitment to national sports, Ibrahim Mahama, founder of Engineers and Planners (E&P), officially handed over $2 million as the first installment of his company’s $5 million pledge to the Black Stars today.
The presentation took place at the Ministry of Finance, where Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem confirmed the funds had already been received.
A Message of Unity and Responsibility
For Ibrahim Mahama, the donation is about more than just football; it’s about a shared national spirit.
Broad Impact: "We promised to contribute to the Black Stars. Contributing to the Black Stars means that we are contributing to everybody," he told the gathering. He argued that the team’s success brings joy and pride to every Ghanaian, regardless of their background.
Worker Recognition: He also dedicated the gesture to his employees at E&P, noting that their hard work in the mining and engineering sectors made the donation possible.
Just the Beginning: The businessman emphasized that the $2 million is only the start of E&P's headline sponsorship, with the remaining $3 million to be paid as the tournament approaches.
The Road to $30 Million
The government is currently running a massive fundraising drive to secure $30 million from the private sector to fully fund the Black Stars' campaign in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Lead Sponsor Status: E&P’s $5 million commitment is currently the largest single private-sector pledge for the tournament.
Logistics and Training: The money will be used to set up world-class training camps and cover the costs of traveling between the three host nations.
Group Stage Prep: The Black Stars have been drawn into Group L, where they will face heavyweights England and Croatia, alongside Panama.
