The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has voiced strong optimism regarding the country's infrastructure timeline, offering a firm projection for one of Ghana's most critical transit networks.
Speaking to stakeholders and party faithful during a regional leg of his ongoing nationwide "Thank You" tour, the veteran politician revealed that the complete transformation of the Eastern Corridor Road remains a topmost operational priority for the government.
Slicing Travel Time from Tema to Bawku
The Eastern Corridor Road project is a major national highway ecosystem designed to act as a direct, highly strategic alternative route linking the southern ports to the northernmost borders of the country.
The Vision: "My prayer is that by the end of next year [2027], we will have a fully completed Eastern Corridor road," Asiedu Nketiah stated, highlighting the urgency behind the ongoing engineering works.
The Economic Impact: The Chairman emphasized that a fully tarred and optimized highway running continuously from the industrial hub of Tema to Bawku in the Upper East Region would drastically slash travel times for cargo trucks, streamline local commerce, and heavily minimize the operational wear-and-tear suffered by transport operators.
A Broad Holistic View of Community Progress
Beyond the focus on heavy asphalt, Asiedu Nketiah utilized his platform to remind citizens that infrastructural projects must always translate into a tangible upgrade in the average person's day-to-day living conditions.
He highlighted three main focus areas that require a continuous, dedicated partnership between the state and local leadership:
Water Access: The Chairman noted that several communities along the corridor still suffer from severe water scarcity, stressing that proper highway development must simultaneously lay down pipelines to supply clean, potable water to rural doorsteps.
Educational Infrastructure: He argued that expanding schools and fixing dilapidated classrooms must move hand-in-hand with economic growth to give local children a competitive edge.
Local Job Creation: By connecting agricultural communities directly to southern markets via a first-class road network, the project aims to naturally spark agro-processing industries and provide sustainable jobs for the youth.
"If work is happening in your district with projects springing up that are likely to change your living conditions, let us look at what we can do collectively for our community," the Chairman stated during a separate stop, urging residents to prioritize long-term developmental progress over immediate, personal partisan gain.
