President Mahama Welcomes President Mnangagwa for 3-Day State Visit | Discuss Ghana

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama received the President of Zimbabwe, H.E. Emmerson Mnangagwa, at the Kotoka International Airport for a high-profile three-day diplomatic visit.

The visit, running from April 1 to April 3, 2026, is designed to deepen political and socioeconomic ties between Accra and Harare as part of the broader "National Reset" of Ghana’s continental diplomacy.

Arrival with Full Military Honors

President Mnangagwa was greeted with a grand reception reflecting the significance of the bilateral relationship:

The Welcome: President Mahama met his Zimbabwean counterpart on the tarmac, followed by a 21-gun salute and a Guard of Honour mounted by the Ghana Armed Forces.

State Banquet: A State Banquet is being held at the Jubilee House later this evening in honor of the visiting leader.

The "Reset" Agenda: Key Focus Areas

The two leaders are scheduled to hold private talks at Peduase Lodge before leading their respective ministerial delegations in discussions on seven priority sectors:

Trade & Economy: Expanding the current limited trade (Ghana’s 2024 exports to Zimbabwe were just $378,000) through new MoUs.

Agriculture & Sanitation: Exploring joint ventures in large-scale farming and waste management technologies.

Anti-Corruption: Sharing best practices between the Ghana OSP and the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

Healthcare: Mnangagwa will specifically tour the Sweden-Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC) to observe Ghana’s progress in cancer treatment and medical delivery.

Itinerary: Honoring History, Building the Future

Beyond the boardroom, President Mnangagwa’s visit includes several symbolic stops:

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park: He will lay a wreath to honor Ghana’s first president, a figure deeply admired in the Zimbabwean independence struggle.

Accra Composting Plant: A tour of the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant to see firsthand Ghana's recent advancements in urban sanitation.

Conclusion: The visit will conclude on Friday, April 3, with the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to formalize the new partnerships.
