On Monday, March 30, 2026, President John Dramani Mahama officially announced that the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has taken delivery of the first of four newly acquired military helicopters.
The announcement was made at the Jubilee House during a high-profile ceremony where Her Excellency Diarra Dimé-Labille, the new Ambassador of France to Ghana, presented her Letters of Credence.

Strategic Air Capacity Boost
The acquisition is part of a broader "National Reset" of Ghana’s defense infrastructure, aimed at replacing an aging fleet that has hampered rapid response capabilities.
The Fleet: Ghana has ordered a total of four helicopters from France’s Airbus Helicopters. This includes three H175 models and one H160.
Delivery Status: One helicopter (an Airbus H175) was delivered in early March 2026 after a ferry flight from Marignane, France.
The Timetable: President Mahama confirmed that a strict delivery schedule is in place for the remaining three aircraft to ensure the Air Force is fully retooled within the year.
Mission Scope: The new fleet will be deployed for search and rescue, medical evacuations (Medevac), maritime patrol, and troop transport.
Strengthening Franco-Ghanaian Ties
President Mahama credited the "kind intervention" of French President Emmanuel Macron for facilitating the deal, which underscores the deepening security cooperation between the two nations.
"This is to help the air capacity of the Ghana military, which had been quite degraded over the years. With the support of President Macron, we have secured a modern fleet that will ensure our borders and our people are better protected." — President John Dramani Mahama.
Ambassador Diarra Dimé-Labille, a former technical advisor at the Élysée Palace, expressed her commitment to further expanding this partnership in the areas of economic development, youth mobility, and regional security.
