Interior Minister: Unsuccessful 2026 Applicants to Be "Stored" for Next Cycle | Discuss Ghana

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, announced a major policy shift intended to reduce the burden on applicants for the national security services.

The Minister revealed that President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ministry to retain the data of all qualified applicants who are not selected in the current recruitment phase. These individuals will be automatically "picked up" and prioritized during the next recruitment cycle in 2026/2027, provided they still meet the basic entry requirements.

Key Details of the "Data Carry-Over" Policy

The move is designed to make the recruitment process more efficient and less costly for the thousands of Ghanaian youth seeking to join the Police, Fire, Prisons, and Immigration services:

No Re-Application Needed: Qualified candidates who pass the initial screening and aptitude tests but miss out on the final selection due to quota limits will not need to buy new forms or undergo fresh documentation in the next round.

Validity of Results: The data, including medical and aptitude test scores, will be stored in the centralized e-recruitment portal and remains valid for one year.

Addressing System Challenges: This announcement comes as the Ministry faces pressure from both the Majority and Minority in Parliament to review the current AI-generated online aptitude tests, which many applicants struggled to complete due to system lags on March 9 and 10.

Transparency: Muntaka emphasized that this "waiting list" approach will further eliminate the role of middlemen and "protocol" seekers who exploit unsuccessful candidates.
