President Mahama to Present $800 Million Loan Packages to Parliament Next Week for Infrastructure Boost | Discuss Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that his administration is set to submit its first two loan agreements to Parliament since taking office. The combined $800 million credit facilities are aimed at tackling infrastructural deficits across the education and transport sectors.

The President made the disclosure while addressing a grand durbar that marked the climax of his highly publicized, two-day "Resetting Ghana Tour" of the Volta Region. He explained that after careful planning and negotiation, the financial frameworks are ready for legislative scrutiny. The funds will be split to target long-standing national developmental challenges, with a large emphasis on easing traffic gridlocks and modernizing schools.

According to Mahama, the first major component is a $300 million facility secured from the World Bank. He explicitly noted that this money will be injected directly into secondary education infrastructure, with the primary objective of completely ending the controversial secondary school "double-track system." The remaining $500 million of the package will be diverted into massive road construction and rehabilitation projects nationwide to boost economic trade routes.
