Former Majority Leader and veteran lawmaker Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has voiced strong criticism against prominent members of the clergy, accusing them of maintaining a noticeable silence on governance issues under the current administration after being vocal critics during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
Speaking on political developments and moral accountability in public discourse, the former Suame MP alleged that the reluctance of key religious leaders to speak out stems from state board appointments and executive patronage received from the present government. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu argued that the clergy’s historical role as moral guardians of the nation is compromised when religious bodies show partisan bias or suppress constructive criticism in exchange for political favors. He urged faith leaders to maintain consistent standards of accountability, civic responsibility, and moral leadership regardless of which political party holds executive power.
