Miracles Aboagye Claims Chairman Wontumi Jailed Over Politics, Not Galamsey | Discuss Ghana

New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator Dennis Miracles Aboagye has alleged that the conviction of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is politically motivated rather than a genuine crackdown on illegal mining.

Speaking on the 20-year sentence handed down to Wontumi over illegal mining operations in Samreboi, Mr. Aboagye argued that the state targeted the regional chairman because of his prominent political profile. He claimed that the legal action forms part of a broader attempt to weaken the NPP's leadership structure, contending that numerous other individuals named in illegal mining reports have not faced similar court trials or imprisonment.

Disagreements surrounding the political fairness of state prosecutions continue to fuel debate as Chairman Wontumi's legal team prepares an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
