The Ashanti Regional Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Kwabena Yandoh, has strongly criticized the 20-year prison sentence handed to the party's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), cautioning members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) against celebrating the court's decision.

Speaking during an interview on Asempa FM, Yandoh described the 20-year term as harsh and disproportionate, maintaining Wontumi’s innocence and alleging political prosecution behind the High Court's ruling.

“If you say you are putting someone in jail for 20 years, how long did even Jesus Christ live on earth?” Paul Yandoh questioned. “I am warning the NDC not to jubilate over this ruling because political power is not permanent. A similar situation could happen to them when political power eventually changes hands.”

Emotional Strain and Allegations of False Testimony

The NPP communications executive expressed deep personal distress over the judgment, revealing that the ruling has impacted him both emotionally and financially:

Allegations of Suborned Witnesses: Yandoh alleged that the court relied on false testimony, claiming that the actual individuals responsible for trespassing and illegal operations on the Samreboi land were freed by state authorities to testify against Wontumi.

Personal and Party Impact: Describing Wontumi as a major pillar of support for party activities and executives in the region, Yandoh disclosed that he had been in tears since the verdict was delivered on July 20.

Political Warning: Yandoh urged NDC supporters to remember Ghana's democratic history, warning that selective enforcement or political persecution sets a dangerous precedent that often returns to affect those in power once governance turns over.
