The early battle to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 elections is heating up. According to the latest Global InfoAnalytics poll released on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia is still the frontrunner, but his lead has narrowed as Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson gains major momentum among delegates.
The new tracking poll shows a shift in support over the last three months, making what once seemed like a clear path for the party Chairman look like a highly competitive two-man race.

The key numbers from the July 2026 poll
The poll surveyed 5,637 NDC delegates across the country, showing a clear shift in candidate preferences since the last poll in April:
Asiedu Nketia Slipping: The NDC Chairman’s support fell slightly, dropping from 29% in April to 27% in July.
Ato Forson Rising: The Finance Minister has been the biggest winner of the summer, climbing from 19% to 22% and closing the gap with the leader to just 5 percentage points.
Big Drops for Other Contenders: Other prominent party figures saw their numbers slide. Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu suffered the sharpest drop, falling from 11% to 6%. Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also dipped slightly from $8\%$ to 7%, while Chief of Staff Julius Debrah fell from 8% to 5%.
The Undecided Factor: The biggest takeaway for analysts is that 30% of delegates remain completely undecided (up from 24% in April), meaning the race is still wide open.
