A night of torrential downpours has left a deep mark of tragedy in the Adenta Municipality.
Following a grueling, hours-long emergency operation that stretched deep into the night, personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully wrapped up search and rescue efforts at Adenta New Site, near the Da Yesu Ase Supermarket.
The Anatomy of the Downpour Collapse
The structural failure occurred at approximately 6:36 PM, right as a violent rainstorm swept across multiple sectors of the capital.
The swift, highly courageous mobilization of local community members acted as a vital first line of defense:
The Initial Citizens' Rescue: Before emergency state vehicles could navigate the flooded roads, brave neighborhood first responders rushed to the scene with bare hands and basic tools, successfully pulling two injured victims from the shifting rubble.
The GNFS Tactical Extrication: Upon arrival, elite rescue teams from the GNFS National Headquarters—supported by specialized units from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations—took complete operational control.

The 37 Military Hospital Transit
The four rescued survivors—identified as Fred Atagba, Solomon, and two young children, Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda—suffered various degrees of blunt-force trauma, deep cuts, and structural fractures.
However, the intensive operation ended in profound grief just before midnight.
"The search and rescue phase has been completely finalized.
Our teams from Headquarters, Legon, and Abelemkpe worked hand-in-hand with the local youth to clear every single layer of the collapsed structure. We successfully moved four individuals to the 37 Military Hospital, and from our final structural assessment, we are fully confident that no one else remains trapped under the rubble. It is deeply unfortunate that we lost one life at the death of the operation, but we must highly commend the incredible bravery of the Adenta New Site community members who acted as instant first responders. Moving forward, the site has been formally handed over to the Ghana Police Service and municipal engineers to launch a thorough investigation into the material integrity of the building, ensuring we determine the exact structural faults that led to this devastating collapse during the storm."
