Mahama and Appointees Donate GH₵6.1 Million to Ghana Medical Trust Fund | Discuss Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has fulfilled his promise to support the country's healthcare system. The President has donated six months of his basic salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as "MahamaCares." Following the President's lead, all government political appointees also contributed one month of their basic salaries to the initiative. The total amount collected from the executive leaders came to an impressive GH₵6,102,737.80. The money was officially presented to the leaders of the Trust Fund on Monday, June 15, 2026, by the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Administration, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo.

Key Details of the Health Donation

Fulfilling the Promise: President Mahama originally made this salary pledge when he first launched the GH₵3 billion health fund to help Ghanaians who cannot afford expensive medical treatments.

Who It Helps: The MahamaCares fund is designed to provide financial support to citizens who are dealing with chronic, life-threatening illnesses such as kidney failure, cancer, diabetes, and heart diseases.

A Call to Action: During the presentation, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo explained that the government cannot do it alone. She encouraged private individuals, banks, mining companies, and large businesses to donate to the fund as part of their community support.
