First Deputy Minority Whip and Member of Parliament for Tolon, Habib Iddrisu, is demanding an urgent briefing from Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams regarding Ghana's preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The lawmaker claims that Majority Members of Parliament have allegedly been allocated two slots each under a state-sponsored arrangement to transport supporters to the tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
According to Iddrisu, the reports raise important questions about transparency, accountability and the criteria being used in distributing opportunities linked to Ghana's participation at the World Cup. He is calling on the Sports Minister to address Parliament and provide clarity on the country's readiness for the tournament as well as the alleged travel arrangements.
The claims have already sparked public debate, with some questioning whether public resources should be used for such an initiative at a time when many supporters would struggle to fund their own trips. Others argue that organized supporter groups can play an important role in boosting national morale and backing the Black Stars on the global stage.
Attention will now turn to the Sports Ministry and whether it confirms, denies or further explains the alleged allocation of travel slots as preparations for the World Cup gather momentum.
