Following a temporary, protective shutdown of major electrical hubs across the capital, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a phased plan to restore power supply now that the torrential morning downpours have subsided.
The operational directive, broadcasted directly from the company's Accra command center by Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, Acting Managing Director of ECG, outlines a calculated, safety-first strategy to re-energize the network. Rather than executing a blanket restoration that could trigger explosive short-circuits or fatal electrocutions in saturated neighborhoods, the utility provider is prioritizing altitude and real-time monitoring:
"The rains have subsided, so we can begin restoring power supply. High-ground areas will be reconnected first, while low-lying areas will be monitored before power is restored.
If the rains return and the substation infrastructure is threatened again, immediate precautionary measures will be taken. We appeal to our consumers to exercise maximum patience as our technical teams work diligently to balance system recovery with absolute public safety."

The Altitude Protocol: High-ground sectors—including parts of the Akwapim ridge, McCarthy Hill, and elevated Adenta loops—are being targeted for immediate reconnection because their geographical layout allows surface runoff to drain rapidly, minimizing water damage to localized transformers.
The Low-Lying Containment Net: Conversely, hard-hit low-lying basins—including the Odawna-Circle corridor, Kaneshie, and the Spintex-Polo Grounds underpass—will remain temporarily disconnected from the grid.
