NDC Headquarters to be Renamed Jerry Rawlings House Next Month | Discuss Ghana

In a major move to cement its historical identity and honor its roots, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced that its national headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, will be renamed after its late founder, Jerry John Rawlings.

The announcement was made yesterday, Friday, May 15, 2026, by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, during a media briefing launching the party's upcoming "NDC Month" celebrations for June 2026.

The "Founder’s Day" Unveiling

The renaming ceremony will serve as the grand finale of a month-long series of national activities aimed at political education, reflection, and grassroots engagement.

The Date: The official renaming of the headquarters to "Jerry Rawlings House" will take place on June 22, 2026, which marks the birthday of the late former President.

The Monument: Alongside the renaming, the party will unveil a custom-carved bust of Jerry John Rawlings at the entry of the Adabraka facility to permanently commemorate his contributions to the party and Ghana’s Fourth Republic.

Aligning with Global Trends: The move formalizes a proposal first brought forward last year by National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who noted that naming party headquarters after founding fathers is a standard global practice that Ghana must mirror.

"Lessons from June 4"

The theme for this year's commemorative month is “Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising.” Fifi Kwetey emphasized that the values Rawlings championed—probity, accountability, and social justice—are highly relevant today.

The "Reset Agenda" Connection: The General Secretary explicitly linked the principles of the June 4 uprising to President John Dramani Mahama’s current governance strategy. He noted that the administration's anti-corruption drives and public system reforms are a modern application of Rawlings' anti-graft values.

Nationwide Activities: The party has outlined a detailed itinerary leading up to the final unveiling on June 22:

June 3: A public lecture on institutional governance in the Banda Constituency.

June 4: A wreath-laying ceremony and national durbar in the Bono Region.

June 10: "NDC Day," focusing on expanding youth and women's political participation.

June 19: "Cadres Day" in Kumasi, highlighting grassroots responsibility.
