Fresh from his two-day "Resetting Ghana" tour of the Eastern Region, President John Dramani Mahama arrived in Libreville, Gabon, today, Sunday, May 3, 2026.
The President is in the Gabonese capital to participate in the maiden Libreville International Forum for Innovation and Development, a high-level summit hosted by Gabonese President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema.
The Forum’s Focus: AI and Stability
The inaugural event is themed “Political Stability, Business Climate, and Artificial Intelligence: Catalysts for Growth.” It aims to position the Central African region as a hub for digital transformation and sustainable investment.
The AI Agenda: A key focus of the forum is how African nations can harness Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve governance, enhance transparency, and accelerate economic growth.
The Libreville Declaration: The summit is expected to culminate in the signing of a strategic document known as the "Libreville Declaration," which will outline a collective commitment by African leaders to digital integration and institutional reforms.
Inaugurating History: The forum also serves as the official opening of the newly reconstructed Omar Bongo Ondimba Congress Centre, a historic venue that will now serve as a primary hub for international diplomacy in the region.
A Symbolic Anniversary
The visit holds significant diplomatic weight as today marks the first anniversary of President Nguema’s inauguration (May 3, 2025), an event President Mahama also attended last year.
According to a statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister in Charge of Government Communications, President Mahama will use the one-day forum to advocate for partnerships that bridge the gap between government policy and private sector innovation.
