In a sharp critique of government communication standards, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, a prominent aide to the NPP Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has urged the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Ocloo, to consider resigning from her post.
Speaking on Channel One TV today, Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Mr. Aboagye argued that public office requires a level of "disciplined communication" that he believes the Minister has failed to maintain, despite her acknowledged contributions to the region.
The Controversy: "Northern Postings as Punishment"
The friction follows recent remarks made by the Minister during a demolition exercise at the Sakumono Ramsar Site on Tuesday, May 5. While warning officials against issuing illegal permits, she suggested that some erring staff had been "transferred to the North" as a form of punishment.
Public Backlash: The comments were immediately condemned by both sides of the political aisle. NDC communicator Hamza Suhuyini and PNC’s Bernard Mornah joined the chorus, describing the remarks as "distasteful" and an insult to the people of Northern Ghana.
The Minister's Apology: Hon. Linda Ocloo issued a formal apology late yesterday, describing her words as a "genuine slip in communication" and affirming that Northern Ghana is a vital part of the nation, not a "punishment ground."
Miracles’ Stance: Dennis Miracles Aboagye insisted today that an apology is "insufficient." He criticized the Minister for being too "camera happy" and warned that her repeated "loose talk" is unhelpful to the government's image. "It may be appropriate for her to give way for others who can project a more unifying image," he stated.
Greater Accra’s Leadership Under Fire
The call for her resignation comes at a time when the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC) is managing several high-stakes issues:
Ramsar Site Demolitions: The Minister has been leading aggressive efforts to protect wetlands, but her communication during these sensitive operations has often sparked controversy.
May Day Reassurance: Just days ago, during the May Day celebrations, Mrs. Ocloo was praised for her speech promising to address low wages and pension disparities, showing the "dual nature" of her public perception.
Party Unity: As the 2026 General Election approaches, the NPP leadership appears increasingly sensitive to any rhetoric that could alienate voters in Northern Ghana—a key battleground for the Bawumia campaign.
