In a significant step toward reclaiming Ghana’s presence in the global skies, President John Dramani Mahama has confirmed that he will officially receive the final report and roadmap from the National Taskforce for the Establishment of a National Airline this week.
Speaking today, Monday, April 27, 2026, during a sod-cutting ceremony for the new interconnecting concourse at the Accra International Airport, the President signaled that the era of "feasibility studies" is over and the era of "implementation" has begun.
The Taskforce’s Mandate
The 10-member taskforce, inaugurated in May 2025 by the Minister for Transport, Hon.
Public-Private Partnership (PPP): The Minister has previously hinted that the government intends to hold zero equity in the new carrier, ensuring it is private-sector led to maintain operational efficiency and financial discipline.
Strategic Hub Vision: The goal is to position Accra as the primary aviation hub of West Africa, leveraging the newly expanded Terminal 3 and the upcoming regional airport upgrades in Sunyani, Bolgatanga, and Wa.
Job Creation: The President emphasized that the airline would provide immediate opportunities for Ghanaian pilots, cabin crew, and aeronautical engineers who are currently seeking employment abroad.
What to Expect in the Report
The presentation this week is expected to outline the following "concrete strategies":
| Strategy Pillar | Focus Area |
| Fleet Acquisition | The selection of aircraft (likely a mix of narrow-body for regional routes and wide-body for international). |
| Route Planning | Prioritizing high-traffic African routes before expanding to Europe and the Americas. |
| Technical Partner | Identification of a reputable international airline to provide technical and operational support. |
| E-Visa Integration | Synergy with the newly announced Digital E-Visa system to make travel to Ghana seamless for tourists. |
