President Mahama Instructs ADC to Sit During Good Friday Service | Discuss Ghana

On Friday, April 3, 2026, during the Good Friday Miracle Service at Independence Square, President John Dramani Mahama drew applause from thousands of worshippers when he personally instructed his Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to take a seat while he addressed the congregation.

The President, who assumed office for his non-consecutive second term in January 2025, was a special guest at the massive religious gathering organized by Evangelist Dag Heward-Mills and the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC).

A Moment of Humility

As President Mahama rose to deliver a short message of hope and a "National Reset" of values, his ADC—following strict military protocol—stood directly behind him. In a move that signaled his respect for the solemnity of the service, the President turned and gestured for the officer to sit down:

The Instruction:

“Please, take a seat. We are in the presence of God; there is only one King here.” — President Mahama to his ADC.

Public Reaction: The gesture was met with loud cheers and "Amens" from the crowd, with many describing it as a refreshing display of servant-leadership.

The Message: In his address, the President called for national unity and urged Ghanaians to emulate the sacrifice of Christ to help navigate the country through its current economic transition.

"Four Gifts" for the President

Earlier in the service, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills offered a series of "prophetic prayers" for the President, which he described as four special gifts for his second tenure:

The Gift of Moses: For leadership and the ability to "deliver" the nation from its current difficulties.

The Gift of Solomon: For an "outstanding and memorable" heart filled with wisdom to make the right decisions.

The Gift of the Messiah: To govern with Judgment and Justice, ensuring fairness for every Ghanaian regardless of political affiliation.

The Gift of David: A prayer for long life, health, and a tenure full of "honor and riches" for the Republic.
