In a scathing assessment of his former political home, Hopeson Adorye, a leading figure in the newly formed United Party (UP), has predicted the total disintegration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) within the next two years.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, Adorye claimed that the NPP has lost its foundational "positive mindset" and is currently operating in a way that hinders rather than fosters national development.
The "Meat and Juice" of Adorye’s Critique
The "Collapse" Timeline: Adorye stated that the NPP will "collapse completely before 2028," suggesting that internal divisions and a disconnect from the needs of the Ghanaian people will make the party non-viable by the next general election cycle.
Lack of Development Mindset: He argued that the current leadership and structure of the NPP lack the vision required to navigate Ghana’s economic challenges. "They don’t have a positive mindset for the growth of the country," he asserted.
The "United Party" Alternative: As a key member of the United Party—the political movement birthed from the merger of Alan Kyerematen’s Movement for Change (MFC) and other breakaway factions—Adorye positioned his new platform as the only legitimate "third force" capable of rescuing the country.
A Call for Discontinuation: In a bold move, Adorye argued that the NPP should not even be allowed to continue as a political entity, characterizing its recent track record as a "failed experiment."
Context: The "Great Split" of 2024–2026
Hopeson Adorye’s departure from the NPP and his subsequent vitriol are part of a larger shift in Ghanaian politics following the 2024 elections:
The Purge: Adorye was officially expelled from the NPP in late 2023 for his open support of Alan Kyerematen.
The United Party Formation: In 2025, the United Party was formally registered, drawing significant numbers of disgruntled NPP grassroots organizers and middle-level managers who felt sidelined by the "Bawumia-led" party structure.
The "Yellow" Wave: Adorye has been instrumental in organizing the UP’s "market storms" and regional tours, often using his deep knowledge of NPP inner workings to attack the party's credibility.
NPP Response
The NPP Communications Directorate has dismissed Adorye’s comments as "the bitter ramblings of a man who lost his way." They maintain that the party remains united and is focused on its "Breaking the 8" legacy projects, despite being in opposition.
