On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr. Gideon Boako, launched a major educational intervention to support 2,200 candidates preparing for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The initiative, which began with a Career Guidance Programme in the Duayaw-Nkwanta and Bomaa zones, is part of a broader strategy to improve academic performance and ease the financial burden on parents in the constituency.
Key Components of the Intervention
Dr. Boako’s support system is designed to follow students from their final junior high school exams through their transition into senior high school:
Exam Essentials: The MP has commenced the distribution of mathematical sets to all 2,200 candidates to ensure no student is disadvantaged by a lack of basic materials.
Full Boarding Kits: Upon successful placement into second-cycle institutions, Dr. Boako has pledged to provide every candidate with a student’s trunk (chop box), a school bag, a scientific calculator, and exercise books.
Career Guidance: In collaboration with the Education Directorate, the MP is leading sessions on examination preparation, discipline, and making informed career choices.
A Growing Legacy of Educational Support
This BECE intervention is part of Dr. Boako's ongoing "National Reset" of human resource development in Tano North:
Medical School Scholarship: During the event, the MP confirmed that an additional 20 students will be sponsored to study medicine at KNUST this year, bringing the total number of future doctors supported by his office to 40.
Tertiary Fee Support: Last year, Dr. Boako paid the academic fees for 138 tertiary students from the constituency and has promised to replicate this support annually.
Holistic Health: Earlier in March 2026, the MP also sponsored eye surgeries for 35 constituents, emphasizing that health and education are the twin pillars of regional growth.
