On Saturday, March 14, 2026, First Lady Mrs. Lordina Mahama arrived in Anyima, in the Kintampo South District of the Bono East Region, to commission the newly renovated Anyima Health Centre.
The project, undertaken by the Lordina Foundation, marks a significant upgrade to healthcare infrastructure for a community that serves over 3,000 residents.
A Personal Homecoming
For the First Lady, the project carries deep personal significance:
Family Roots: Mrs. Mahama noted that Anyima is near Jema-Ampoma, the hometown of her late mother, Abena Gyamfua.
Responsive Leadership: The renovation was a direct response to advocacy from the Anyimahemaa, Saa Gyamfuaa II, who highlighted the deteriorating state of the previous structure.
Upgraded Facilities and Equipment
The Lordina Foundation has transformed the facility from what was described as a "shabby" structure into a modern medical hub:
Expanded Wards: The centre now features a dedicated Labour Ward, a Children’s Ward, and separate Male and Female Wards to ensure patient dignity and privacy.
New Departments: The renovation added a modern Out-Patient Department (OPD), an Adolescent Centre, a laboratory, a dispensary, and an emergency room.
Modern Equipment: Mrs. Mahama donated a wide range of essential medical supplies, including:
Electric obstetric beds and infant incubators.
Ultrasound systems and digital ECG machines.
Infant phototherapy units and patient monitoring devices.
The National "Free Women’s Healthcare" Goal
During the ceremony, the First Lady linked the Anyima project to the broader "National Reset" agenda:
Reducing Mortality: She emphasized that the facility is part of the Foundation’s goal to reduce maternal and infant mortality by bringing care closer to underserved communities.
Upcoming Launch: Mrs. Mahama announced that President John Dramani Mahama will soon officially launch a Free Women’s Healthcare Programme. This initiative aims to provide free health services for women at primary facilities like the Anyima Health Centre to support early disease detection and reduce family costs.
