On Sunday, March 15, 2026, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) issued a comprehensive statement debunking social media allegations regarding inflated procurement costs and improper contracting for its new headquarters.
The statement, signed by Media Relations Officer Prince Kwame Minkah, seeks to "set the record straight" on two specific claims involving office renovations and laptop purchases.
Claim 1: The GHS 11M "Sole-Sourced" Renovation
Social media reports alleged that GoldBod awarded an GHS 11 million office renovation contract to a company owned by Stan Dogbe through sole-sourcing.
The Refutation: GoldBod clarified that the renovation was for the old Bank of Ghana (BoG) Head Office at No. 1 Thorpe Road, which was rented to accommodate over 300 new staff members following the dissolution of the PMMC.
Tendering Method: Contrary to the "sole-sourcing" claim, GoldBod provided documentation showing that the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) approved a Restricted Tendering method on June 24, 2025.
Selected Contractor: The contract was awarded to M/S CORRECA Ghana Limited, not a company owned by Mr. Dogbe. Two other firms—M/S Project Direct Limited and M/S Buildway Construction Limited—were also invited to bid.
Claim 2: Inflated Laptop Prices (GHS 322,500)
A second claim alleged that GoldBod procured 15 laptops at an inflated total price of GHS 322,500.
The Unit Price: GoldBod confirmed the total cost but clarified that it translates to a unit price of GHS 21,500 (inclusive of taxes).
Market Comparison: The agency provided a screenshot from the supplier, Messrs GET4LESS Ghana Limited, showing the open market price for the specified model—a Lenovo ThinkPad T14S (Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD)—is GHS 21,505.
PPA Approval: Because GET4LESS was the only supplier able to meet the urgent delivery volume at the time, the PPA granted approval for Single Source procurement in November 2025.
Commitment to Transparency
To further combat what it termed "fake news," GoldBod highlighted its proactive disclosure policy:
Public Repository: All major contracts, including those for office furniture (Grace-Filled Ventures) and task force vehicles, have been published on the official GoldBod website since March 10, 2026.
Statutory Compliance: CEO Samuel Gyamfi, ESQ., noted that the disclosures are in strict accordance with Section 42(1)(c) of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
Vigilance: The agency entreated the public to reject attempts by "desperate purveyors of fake news" to find wrongdoing where there is none.
