In a move to amplify Ghana's cultural presence on the world stage, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Ghanaian music will be a central feature of the Black Stars' matchday experience during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Asempa FM on Thursday, March 19, 2026, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum revealed that the association is selecting a lineup of local tracks to be played at specific moments, including during the players' tunnel walk, warm-ups, and—most importantly—whenever the Black Stars score a goal.
The "Goal Song" Initiative
The initiative aligns with a broader FIFA strategy to allow nations to incorporate authentic local sounds into the tournament atmosphere.
Authentic Celebrations: A designated Ghanaian track will be blasted through the stadium speakers immediately after a goal to ensure celebrations are rooted in "authentic local sounds".
Fan Engagement: From the quarter-final stage onwards, a dedicated hype man will be introduced to enhance the energy of the traveling Ghanaian supporters.
Cultural Showcase: The GFA believes this will not only boost player morale but also showcase Ghana's vibrant music industry to a global audience of billions.
The Fans' Choice: Potential Contenders
While the GFA has not yet finalized the "Official 5," several tracks are already gaining massive traction as the unofficial anthems for the Group L campaign against Panama, England, and Croatia:
"Black Stars Fire": A powerhouse campaign anthem featuring the "Big Three"—Black Sherif, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy.
"Same Same": A highlife-themed World Cup song by Akwaboah Jnr. that emphasizes global unity and equality.
"Nkunimdie" (Victory): An inspiring anthem by Akora Nath that has become a favorite among street fans in Accra and Kumasi.
"Stars of Ghana (Jama Anthem)": An infectious rhythm-heavy track inspired by traditional Jama chants.
Black Stars World Cup Schedule (Group L)
The GFA is hopeful these songs will get plenty of airtime across the three host cities:
| Match | Date (2026) | Venue |
| Ghana vs. Panama | June 17 | BMO Field, Toronto |
| Ghana vs. England | June 23 | Gillette Stadium, Boston |
| Ghana vs. Croatia | June 27 | Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia |
"We want the whole world to see and feel Ghana's passion, energy, and unity wherever the Black Stars play." — Abraham Boakye, President of GHANSU.
