Women of Valour Hits the U.S.: Philadelphia Sports Edition Announced | Discuss Ghana

Fresh off a sold-out fourth edition at the London Hilton on Park Lane, Nana Aba Anamoah has officially announced that the Women of Valour (WoV) movement is heading to the United States this summer.

In a post shared on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, the media icon revealed that Philadelphia will host a special "Sports Edition" of the event in June 2026.

Why a "Sports Edition" in Philadelphia?

The choice of theme and location aligns with a massive summer of sports in the United States:

The Intersection of Courage and Sport: Following the March theme of "The Pursuit of Fearlessness," the Philadelphia edition is expected to highlight women in the sports industry—athletes, journalists, and executives—who have broken barriers in traditionally male-dominated spaces.

Building on London’s Success: The London event (held March 7) brought together over 500 professional women and featured speakers like Nana Ama McBrown, Kate Henshaw, and UK trade expert Lesley Batchelor.

Global Expansion: This marks the fourth major international stop for the initiative, which has grown from its roots in Accra to Paris (2025) and London (2026).

Sports Heritage: Philadelphia is a historic sports hub, and the timing in June coincides with the buildup to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana is expected to have a significant presence.

Recap: The London Controversy

The Philadelphia announcement comes just as the dust settles on a social media debate regarding the London event's sponsorship:

GoldBod Clarification: On March 8, GoldBod Jewellery Limited (a subsidiary of the Ghana Gold Board) denied claims of direct financial sponsorship. They clarified that their "partnership" was limited to offering promotional discounts to attendees as part of their Ghana Heritage Month campaign.

Political Backlash: The event faced criticism from some political circles in Ghana, who questioned why state-linked entities were associated with a private event held abroad.

The "Fearlessness" Message: Despite the noise, organizers described the London edition as a "transformative experience" that successfully raised awareness for gender-based violence and women's safety.
