"Why Did I Even Come?": Kwaku Manu Stranded in Dubai Amid Airspace Lockdown | Discuss Ghana

Popular Ghanaian actor Kwaku Manu has shared a video expressing his frustration after becoming stranded in Dubai following the total closure of the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) civilian airspace on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

The actor revealed that his trip was strictly for business, as he had traveled to the emirate to purchase stock for his perfume shop.

Caught in a Regional Lockdown

Manu’s travel disruption is part of a massive regional grounding of commercial aviation triggered by joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory missile barrages.

Sole Purpose for Travel: Kwaku Manu stated he was in Dubai specifically to buy perfumes.

Video of Frustration: In a video shared on social media, he asked, "Why did I even come to Dubai?" noting the sudden escalation of the conflict and the resulting flight suspensions.

Dubai Airspace Status: The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) announced a "temporary and partial closure" of its airspace as a "precautionary measure" to ensure the safety of flights and crews.

Major Hubs Impacted: All flights in and out of Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) have been suspended until at least 3:00 p.m. local time on Monday, March 2.

Wider Impact on Ghanaian Travelers

The cancellation of services has left hundreds of other Ghanaians stranded both in Dubai and at home:

Kotoka International Airport (KIA): Hundreds of travelers were left stranded in Accra on Saturday night after Emirates flight EK 788 was cancelled at 7:15 p.m. GMT.

Transit Disruption: As a major hub connecting Ghana to Asia and Europe, the suspension of Dubai’s airports has effectively severed one of West Africa's most vital global links.

Other High-Profile Stranded Visitors: Indian badminton star PV Sindhu and Tamil actor Ajith Kumar are also reported to be among the thousands currently stuck at Dubai’s airports due to the regional conflict.
