Chairman Wontumi’s Accounts Frozen Amid GH¢1.5 Billion ORAL Crackdown | Discuss Ghana

On Tuesday, March 10, 2026, Government Spokesperson and Minister for State Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, revealed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has frozen approximately GH¢50 million in bank accounts belonging to Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The move is part of a massive anti-corruption drive dubbed Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), which has so far seen the state freeze a total of GH¢1.5 billion in assets across multiple high-profile cases.

Details of the Wontumi Asset Freeze

Speaking on JoyNews' PM Express, Kwakye Ofosu clarified that the freeze is a temporary legal measure to secure suspected proceeds of crime while investigations and court proceedings continue:

Suspected Crimes: Wontumi is currently under investigation for various offenses, including fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

The "Samreboi" Case: Separate from the financial freeze, Wontumi is also scheduled to appear in court on March 16, 2026, for a ruling on his "no-case-to-answer" motion regarding alleged illegal mining (galamsey) in the Samreboi area.

\No Immediate Recovery: The Minister emphasized that the state cannot permanently confiscate the GH¢50 million until a court delivers a final conviction and grants the legal mandate for recovery.
