The Ghana Police Service confirmed on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the arrest of three students from the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS) in connection with the brutal assault of a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School (SHTS).

The incident, which took place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, during the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru, was captured in a viral video that sparked national outrage due to its violent nature.



The Suspects and the Arrest

The arrests followed a 24-hour ultimatum issued by the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, to school authorities to produce the culprits.

The suspects were handed over to the Swedru Divisional Police Command on the night of Monday, February 23, 2026, by school management.

Unprovoked Attack: The victim, who was later hospitalized, recounted that he was unexpectedly surrounded and pelted with stones while trying to attend to a minor health issue.

Nature of Violence: Viral footage showed the student being kicked, beaten with sticks/rods, and hit with large stones by a group of students believed to be from SWESBUS.

Hospitalization: The injured student was rushed to a local health facility where he is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

GES Suspension: The Ghana Education Service (GES) Central Regional Directorate has ordered the immediate suspension of all zonal inter-school sporting activities for SHSs and SHTSs in the region until further notice.

Police Statement: Authorities condemned the "hooliganism" and urged students to desist from violence, warning that the three suspects will be arraigned before the court to face the full rigors of the law.
